Capital City Surgery Center Receives Medicare Certification and Full, Three-Year AAAHC Accreditation

capital city surgery centerRALEIGH, NC (Oct. 15, 2012) – Capital City Surgery Center, a joint venture ambulatory surgery center (ASC) between WakeMed Health & Hospitals, local physicians and Compass Surgical Partners, has received its Medicare license and a full, three-year Accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). The ASC opened in July 2012.

"We are thrilled that Capital City has received its full accreditation, which represents the high level of quality and care that Compass strives for with each of our partner ASCs," says Sean Rambo, Compass founder and Chief Operating Officer. "The AAAHC certification is evidence of the highest level of health care and clinical standards in the industry, and we are proud to offer this level of quality health care services to the residents in the Triangle area."

Formed in 1979, AAAHC is a private, non-profit organization that develops ambulatory health care standards for patient safety, quality care and value through peer-based accreditation processes, education and research. To be awarded a Certificate of Accreditation, the ASC must be in compliance with AAAHC standards.

"The AAAHC Accreditation has also allowed the Center to join participating insurance networks, such as BCBS of North Carolina," Rambo says. "Accreditation is received after an intense two-day, on-site inspection that examines patient cases, policies and procedures. This was an important milestone in the growth of the ASC and provides evidence of the high-quality of care we strive for."

Capital City Surgery Center is a multi-specialty ASC located in Raleigh, NC, near WakeMed's Raleigh Campus. With eight operating rooms and three procedure rooms, the center offers a range of specialties, including general orthopedics, sports medicine, hand, spine, pain management, ENT, ophthalmology, urology and general surgery.

Capital City Surgery Center Opens for Business

capital city surgery centerRaleigh, North Carolina (July 18, 2012) – WakeMed Health & Hospitals announces the opening of the Capital City Surgery Center, a multi‐specialty ambulatory surgery center (ASC) located near WakeMed Raleigh Campus.  The Capital City Surgery Center is a joint venture between WakeMed and community physicians and is managed by Compass Surgical Partners. The new Capital City Surgery Center has eight operating rooms and three procedure rooms currently equipped for general orthopedics, hand, spine, ENT, ophthalmology, urology and general surgery.

The Capital City Surgery Center is the anchor tenant in the recently opened 87,000‐square‐foot WakeMed Raleigh Medical Park located near the corner of New Bern Ave. and Sunnybrook Rd. adjacent to WakeMed Raleigh Campus (23 Sunnybrook Rd., Raleigh NC 27610). "The Capital City Surgery Center brings together a major hospital system, physician partners and experts in managing ambulatory surgery centers.  The end result of this partnership is increased access to efficient, quality medical care in an area that has historically lacked outpatient services," commented Carolyn Knaup, vice president of ambulatory services. "We fully expect some of the outpatient surgical cases previously completed in other WakeMed facilities to move to the Capital City Surgery Center.  This shift will increase convenience for patients and free capacity in the Raleigh Campus operating rooms."

"The joint venture model allows WakeMed and local physicians to strategically align on issues including patient care, clinical quality and scope of services.  In addition, the new outpatient care facility will increase access to high‐quality and cost‐effective medical services.  It is truly a win‐win for both patients and physicians," said Sean Rambo, co‐founder of Compass Surgical Partners.  "We look forward to a long‐standing relationship with WakeMed and our physician partners."

In addition to the Capital City Surgery Center, the WakeMed Raleigh Medical Park houses WakeMed outpatient imaging and lab services as well as pre‐anesthesia testing and space for physician offices.  All of these services are valuable additions to the ever‐expanding medical community in Southeast Raleigh.
