Raleigh, North Carolina (July 18, 2012) – WakeMed Health & Hospitals announces the opening of the Capital City Surgery Center, a multi‐specialty ambulatory surgery center (ASC) located near WakeMed Raleigh Campus. The Capital City Surgery Center is a joint venture between WakeMed and community physicians and is managed by Compass Surgical Partners. The new Capital City Surgery Center has eight operating rooms and three procedure rooms currently equipped for general orthopedics, hand, spine, ENT, ophthalmology, urology and general surgery.
The Capital City Surgery Center is the anchor tenant in the recently opened 87,000‐square‐foot WakeMed Raleigh Medical Park located near the corner of New Bern Ave. and Sunnybrook Rd. adjacent to WakeMed Raleigh Campus (23 Sunnybrook Rd., Raleigh NC 27610). "The Capital City Surgery Center brings together a major hospital system, physician partners and experts in managing ambulatory surgery centers. The end result of this partnership is increased access to efficient, quality medical care in an area that has historically lacked outpatient services," commented Carolyn Knaup, vice president of ambulatory services. "We fully expect some of the outpatient surgical cases previously completed in other WakeMed facilities to move to the Capital City Surgery Center. This shift will increase convenience for patients and free capacity in the Raleigh Campus operating rooms."

In addition to the Capital City Surgery Center, the WakeMed Raleigh Medical Park houses WakeMed outpatient imaging and lab services as well as pre‐anesthesia testing and space for physician offices.
