If your health system is working to develop market-centric approaches for delivering ambulatory surgical care outside hospital walls, you won’t want to miss insights from David Cannady, chief strategy officer of Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH).
The 48-hospital system has partnered with Compass Surgical Partners to develop more than 30 ambulatory surgery centers across multiple states.
In a Becker’s Hospital Review article published July 31, 2024, Cannady described how Compass’s embedded health system ASC partnership model is paying off for BSMH:
Health systems count on Compass’s ASC acumen to develop high-performing surgery center networks.
Together, Compass’s leadership team has developed and managed more than 250 ASCs and more than 1000 physician syndications. Compass’s partner ASCs achieve 30% or better EBITDA margin than industry average.
Developing solid physician partnerships, securing managed care contracts, and “proper pacing and prioritization of projects that allow us to scale efficiently” are crucial, Cannady told Becker’s. “Compass brings significant experience and expertise in each of these areas, and we are already seeing the value of our partnership in accelerating our ambulatory footprint.”
“Health systems will also have to determine the best course of action to retain volumes in their networks while — at the same time — identifying opportunities that will increase ambulatory share and attract new physicians,” Cannady said.
