Compass Acquires Equity Interest in Safety Harbor Surgery Center near Tampa

safetyharborRALEIGH, NC (April 29, 2013) Raleigh-based Compass Surgical Partners, a firm that invests, manages and develops ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) has acquired an equity interest in Safety Harbor Surgery Center located in Clearwater, FL.

“We’re excited to partner with the physicians in Safety Harbor and be a part of the future success of the Center,” says Sean Rambo, Compass founder and Chief Operating Officer.

In August of 2012, Compass was awarded a management contract and has provided operational oversight for Safety Harbor Surgery Center since then. The team further solidified its involvement through an equity investment and is in the process of repositioning the center for future success. In addition they have completed a re-syndication that included two general surgeons, an ophthalmologist and a gastroenterologist.

Safety Harbor Surgery Center is a multi-specialty ASC with two operating rooms located in Clearwater, Florida. The center’s specialties include general surgery, GI, ophthalmology/retinal surgery, urology and orthopedics.

DJ Hill, provided “Guidance for Turbulent Times,” a comprehensive presentation included national trends, risk factors, and several detailed case studies. The impact of industry consolidations also was reviewed, and attendees came away from the presentation with a more in-depth understanding of the issues that they faced in this changing health care industry.

Health Care Veteran David Hall Joins Board of Directors for Compass

davidhallRALEIGH, NC (February 7, 2013) – David Hall, a veteran in the health care industry for more than 25 years, has joined the Board of Directors for Compass Surgical Partners, a Raleigh, NC, based firm that specializes in the management, acquisition and development of ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), in addition to other outpatient-based strategies.

"We are privileged to have someone of David Hall's caliber serve on our Board," says Sean Rambo, Compass Co-founder. "He is well known as a leader in the health care industry, and his involvement further solidifies Compass' strategic direction and position in the marketplace."

Hall has a long career in successful executive operations for the hospital and outpatient health care industries. He served as Executive Chairman of Titan Health Corporation, a venture-backed enterprise with partner ASCs that successfully merged with United Surgical Partners International (USPI) in 2011. Prior to that, he served as President, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ASC Network Corporation, which was bought by HealthSouth, and Executive Vice President at Medical Care America, which, at the time, was the largest operator for outpatient surgery centers in the United States. In addition, he has served as Director of Cogent Healthcare, Inc., a private hospitalist and intensivist company, and Radiant Research, a comprehensive clinical research and development company.

Capital City Surgery Center Receives Medicare Certification and Full, Three-Year AAAHC Accreditation

capital city surgery centerRALEIGH, NC (Oct. 15, 2012) – Capital City Surgery Center, a joint venture ambulatory surgery center (ASC) between WakeMed Health & Hospitals, local physicians and Compass Surgical Partners, has received its Medicare license and a full, three-year Accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). The ASC opened in July 2012.

"We are thrilled that Capital City has received its full accreditation, which represents the high level of quality and care that Compass strives for with each of our partner ASCs," says Sean Rambo, Compass founder and Chief Operating Officer. "The AAAHC certification is evidence of the highest level of health care and clinical standards in the industry, and we are proud to offer this level of quality health care services to the residents in the Triangle area."

Formed in 1979, AAAHC is a private, non-profit organization that develops ambulatory health care standards for patient safety, quality care and value through peer-based accreditation processes, education and research. To be awarded a Certificate of Accreditation, the ASC must be in compliance with AAAHC standards.

"The AAAHC Accreditation has also allowed the Center to join participating insurance networks, such as BCBS of North Carolina," Rambo says. "Accreditation is received after an intense two-day, on-site inspection that examines patient cases, policies and procedures. This was an important milestone in the growth of the ASC and provides evidence of the high-quality of care we strive for."
