Compass Agrees to Help Tampa Bay Center with Operations

BAPSC(April 1, 2012) – Compass Surgical Partners has been engaged to provide management services for an existing ASC in Brandon, FL. Bay Area Physician's Surgery Center includes three operating rooms and three procedure rooms for specialties including urology, orthopedics, ENT and GI.

Compass is repositioning the center in the marketplace, assisting with accreditation, securing local insurance contracts, restructuring debt and resyndicating for additional physician partners. The firm expects to purchase equity in the partnership near the end of 2012.

St. Francis Medical Center in New Jersey Engages Compass for Surgery Center on Team Campus Bordentown

(March 1, 2012)Compass Surgical Partners has entered into a joint venture with St. Francis Medical Center for a surgery center on the Team Campus Bordentown site.

Team Campus Bordentown is a $50 million project that is home to state-of-the-art office and medical space on a 32 acres in a fast-growing area of Central New Jersey. The site is being developed by St. Francis Medical Center and K. Johnson Enterprises, a real estate and business development company led by former NFL star and Hamilton, N.J., native, Kevin Johnson.

Team Campus Bordentown includes a 30,000 square foot outpatient treatment center, with 10,000 square feet dedicated to the surgery center. Compass Surgical Partners is syndicating, designing, building and managing the ASC from the ground up.

The ASC project will be a joint venture between Compass, St. Francis and local physicians. Construction will commence at the beginning of 2013, with an anticipated opening date during third quarter 2013. Targeted specialties for the first round of syndication, anticipated to close in fourth quarter 2012, include spine, pain, orthopedics, general surgery and ENT.

Sean Rambo Interviewed for Becker's ASC Review

rambo(February 8, 2012) – Sean Rambo, founding partner of Compass Surgical Partners, was interviewed for an article in Becker's ASC Review — "What Surgery Centers Should Expect in 2012: 15 ASC Market Trends."

In the article, Rambo predicted that while smaller procedures are being driven into the office-based setting, more complex and higher-end procedures will move to the ASC. He also talked about how reimbursement and technology changes are allowing surgery centers to explore offering more complex procedures and, as a result, are able to boost market share and reposition themselves in the market

Compass Assumes Management Contract for Princeton Surgiplex

(Jan. 1, 2012) – Compass Surgical Partners has been engaged to provide day-to-day management and evaluate strategic options in the marketplace for Princeton Surgiplex, located in Princeton, N.J.

Established in 2004, Princeton Surgiplex is a one-room ambulatory surgery center that currently has 21 physician partners and includes the following specialties: orthopedics, podiatry, urology, ENT and GI.

Compass is co-managing the center with United Surgical Partners International (USPI), the nation's largest owner and operator of surgical facilities. Compass was awarded the management contract for Princeton Surgiplex in order to restructure the partnership and position the center for resyndication and growth.

Beth Derby, RN, Joins Compass

Beth Derby, RNBeth Derby, RN, a nationally recognized expert on ASCs, has joined Compass Surgical Partners as the Senior Clinical & Regulatory Advisor. As such, she is overseeing the Clinical Operations Program to ensure that all partner surgery centers adhere to the highest clinical standards, quality control and regulatory compliance.

Derby has extensive expertise in assisting ASCs throughout the United States in critical turnaround efforts. She has served as a Senior Clinical Operator for multiple ASC chains, as well as President of the Federated Ambulatory Surgery Association (FASA), the precursor to the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA). In addition, she is an active member of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and also serves on the organization's board of directors.
